Berberine is a herb that has traditionally been used to support gut health and microbial balance, but has gained notoriety more recently for helping with blood sugar balance and tackling blood sugar spikes associated with eating carbohydrates.

Milk thistle, a popular herb used traditionally for hundreds of years, has been found to function as a Pgp (P-glycoprotein) inhibitor which means it inhibits the transporter that limits berberine's absorbability. Milk thistle therefore enhances the bioavailability and absorption of berberine. In addition, several clinical studies have shown that the combination of berberine and silymarin (an active constituent of milk thistle) has positive effects on lipid and glucose markers.
