Evening primrose oil is derived from the seeds of a wildflower native to North America, which was used in traditional Native American cultures both topically and internally to support normal healing processes and overall wellness. The high concentrations of essential fatty acids, including GLA, in the seeds of the evening primrose are thought to be largely responsible for the remarkable therapeutic properties of the plant. Because only few plants provide notable amounts of GLA, dietary intake of this nutrient is typically low, and the body must make much of its supply of GLA from linoleic acid, a fatty acid present in certain fruit and nut oils. GLA may provide support for women during menstruation and menopause. It may also play a role in supporting circulatory health and a healthy inflammation response.
